Why Pod Point Is So Widely Installed
Proven, boringly reliable
Pod Point has been making home chargers longer than most of its competitors have existed. The Solo range is now in its third major generation, and the brand's failure rate is among the lowest we see across any charger we install. If you want something that'll be working quietly on your wall in 2035, this is a safe pick.
Solar mode without extra hardware
The 3S introduces a proper solar-charging mode — detecting surplus export via your meter and ramping charge rate to match your available green electricity. It isn't quite as clever as the Zappi's continuous-tracking approach, but it gets 90% of the benefit with none of the ecosystem lock-in. If you already have solar but don't fancy committing to the myenergi world, this is a clean, pragmatic answer.
Smart tariff aware
The Pod Point App schedules charging around your tariff's cheap windows — Octopus Go, Intelligent Octopus, EDF GoElectric, British Gas EV — and keeps a running log of what you've spent and saved. It doesn't have the native tariff-API depth of Ohme or Hypervolt, but for anyone on a simple fixed off-peak window it does everything you need.

Clean, compact design
The Solo 3S has a refreshed dark-grey finish, flush-mounted cable storage (on the tethered version), and a discreet status LED. It won't dominate a wall like some larger units; the unit is notably slimmer than the Solo 3.
When We'd Recommend Pod Point
Pod Point is our go-to when:

- You're on a simple off-peak tariff rather than dynamic pricing
- You have modest solar (or none yet) and don't want to commit to a charger ecosystem
- You value a big nationwide support network
If you're on Octopus Intelligent Go and want the deepest tariff integration, we'd lean Hypervolt or Ohme. If your priority is surplus-PV diversion, Zappi wins. For everything else, Pod Point is the safe, proven recommendation — and usually one of the better-value options too.
