OZEV Approved Installer
Office for Zero Emission Vehicles — your route to government-funded EV charger installation grants
What Is OZEV?
The Office for Zero Emission Vehicles (OZEV) is a team within the UK government's Department for Transport that works to support the transition to zero-emission vehicles. OZEV develops policy, manages grant schemes, and oversees the infrastructure needed to make electric vehicle ownership practical and affordable for everyone.
One of OZEV's most important roles is administering the EV chargepoint grants — financial incentives that reduce the cost of installing home and workplace electric vehicle charging points. These grants are only available through OZEV-approved installers, making approval status a critical factor when choosing an EV charger installer.
Blue Electrics is proud to be an OZEV-approved installer, authorised to carry out grant-funded EV chargepoint installations across South Wales. Our approval means we've met the government's technical and professional standards for EV charger installation, and we can apply for grants on your behalf — handling the paperwork so you don't have to.
Why Does OZEV Approval Matter?
EV Chargepoint Grant — Save Up to £350
The EV Chargepoint Grant (formerly the Electric Vehicle Homecharge Scheme/EVHS) provides up to £350 off the cost of installing a home EV charger for eligible applicants. This grant is available to tenants in rented accommodation (both private and social housing) and to landlords providing charging for tenants. Only OZEV-approved installers can apply for this grant.
Workplace Charging Scheme — Up to £350 per Socket
The Workplace Charging Scheme (WCS) helps businesses, charities, and public sector organisations install EV chargepoints. It provides up to £350 per socket, for a maximum of 40 sockets per applicant — that's up to £14,000 in grant funding for larger installations. Again, this is only available through OZEV-approved installers like Blue Electrics.
Government-Verified Standards
OZEV approval isn't automatic. Installers must demonstrate technical competence in EV charger installation, hold relevant electrical accreditations (in our case, NAPIT), carry appropriate insurance, and meet ongoing compliance requirements. Choosing an OZEV-approved installer means the government has verified our capability.
Hassle-Free Grant Applications
As an OZEV-approved installer, we handle the entire grant application process on your behalf. We assess your eligibility, prepare the application, install your charger, and claim the grant — deducting it directly from your invoice. You benefit from the saving without any of the administrative burden.
Available OZEV Grants Explained
EV Chargepoint Grant (Residential)
The EV Chargepoint Grant provides up to £350 (including VAT) towards the cost of purchasing and installing an EV chargepoint at your home. To be eligible, you must:
- Own or lease an eligible electric vehicle (fully electric or plug-in hybrid) — or have one on order
- Be a tenant in rented accommodation (private or social housing), or a landlord providing charging for tenants
- Have off-street parking where the charger can be installed (a driveway, garage, or dedicated parking space)
- Use an OZEV-approved installer to carry out the installation
Important note: Since April 2022, the residential grant is no longer available to owner-occupiers in single-unit properties (i.e., homeowners in houses). It remains available to flat owners/leaseholders, tenants, and landlords. This change was made because home charger costs have become more affordable, but the grant continues to support those who face additional barriers to installing charging.
Workplace Charging Scheme (WCS)
The WCS is designed for employers and businesses that want to provide EV charging for their staff, visitors, or fleet vehicles. Key details:
- Up to £350 per socket towards the purchase and installation of EV chargepoints
- Maximum of 40 sockets per applicant (up to £14,000 in total funding)
- Available to businesses, charities, and public sector organisations
- Chargepoints must have a minimum power rating of 7kW
- The charger must have smart functionality (capable of remote monitoring and load management)
- Installation must be carried out by an OZEV-approved installer
The WCS is an excellent opportunity for businesses to provide an attractive employee benefit, support their sustainability goals, and prepare for the transition to electric fleets — all with significant government subsidy.
