Blue Electrics installs AIKO solar panels across South Wales for customers who want the current state of the art in residential solar. AIKO Energy is a Chinese photovoltaic manufacturer that has pushed all-back-contact (ABC) panel technology into the mainstream — delivering some of the highest module efficiencies in the market, significantly better shade tolerance than conventional panels, and a genuinely striking all-black aesthetic.
Why we install AIKO
1. All-back-contact (ABC) cell technology
Most solar panels run their electrical busbars across the front face of each cell. Those thin silver lines block a small but meaningful fraction of incoming light. AIKO's ABC design moves all the electrical contacts to the rear of the cell — so the front face is pure silicon receiving pure sunlight, with no busbars in the way.
The result is a panel that genuinely looks different (no visible lines, a uniform deep-black surface) and that performs measurably better, especially in lower light conditions. For South Wales roofs facing less-than-perfect orientation or with occasional shading, ABC technology is a real technical advantage, not a marketing claim.
2. Class-leading efficiency
AIKO's current-generation residential modules reach module efficiencies of around 23–24% — among the highest available for domestic-scale installations. In practical terms that means more kilowatt-hours per square metre of roof, which matters when you've got a limited area to work with or want to hit a specific annual generation target without covering the whole roof.
Typical AIKO residential modules we specify sit in the 445 W – 475 W range at standard test conditions, in familiar 60-cell residential sizes that fit cleanly on UK roofs.
3. Better shade performance
Because ABC cells are architected differently, they degrade less gracefully under partial shade than standard PERC or TOPCon modules. A passing chimney shadow, nearby branches, or a neighbouring roof can take a smaller bite out of production than you'd see on a comparable conventional panel. Combined with panel-level optimisers or microinverters where appropriate, this is a useful tool for awkward South Wales roofs.
4. Clean, considered aesthetic
The uniform black front face — no busbars, no cell-grid visible at distance — has genuine visual appeal, particularly on slate and dark-tile roofs common across the valleys. For conservation areas and customers who want the panels to disappear into the roof, AIKO's ABC modules are one of the best-looking products on the market.
5. Strong warranty coverage
AIKO offers industry-standard product and performance warranties, with leading residential modules carrying a long-duration product warranty and a linear power-output warranty stretching to 30 years. Exact terms depend on the specific module family — we confirm the applicable warranty schedule in the quotation for every system we specify.
Flagship AIKO modules we install
AIKO's residential ABC range is tightly curated. Two modules cover almost every UK domestic install we quote.
Neostar 2S (Mono-Glass)
445–470 W · all-back-contact · 54-cell all-black
The flagship ABC module. ~23% module efficiency, excellent partial-shade behaviour, and a fully uniform black face — no visible busbars or grid lines from the ground. The module we reach for on tight roofs and aesthetically sensitive installs.
Neostar 2S+ (Dual-Glass)
495–520 W · dual-glass bifacial · 60-cell
A step up in power and longevity. Glass-glass construction resists delamination and moisture ingress better than polymer backsheets, which matters over a 30-year life. Our pick for larger arrays where per-panel yield is critical.
Where AIKO fits in our range
AIKO sits alongside JA Solar as a panel option on our quotes. JA Solar is our default workhorse — reliable, affordable, Tier 1, and extraordinarily well-proven over decades. AIKO is what we reach for when:
- Roof space is tight and we need the highest kWh per square metre to hit a target generation figure.
- Shading is a factor and the ABC cell architecture's better behaviour under partial shade is genuinely useful.
- Aesthetics matter — customers wanting the cleanest possible look on a dark-tiled or slate roof.
- The customer wants the current state of the art and is happy with the small premium AIKO modules carry over a mainstream TOPCon panel.
AIKO with our hybrid inverter platforms
AIKO panels are fully compatible with all three of the hybrid inverter platforms we install — SigEnergy, Sunsynk, and Solis. We'll recommend the right inverter for your setup based on system size, battery choice, and whether you need features like off-grid capability or integrated EV charging.
